Frequently Asked Questions

How do I start?

If you're ready to get started immediately at DCF, sign up for our Elements Program here.

If you'd prefer to find out more or come in for our Sunday free class at 11am before committing, email us.

Do I need experience or some minimum level of fitness?

No. Our workouts and exercises scale to any level.

I am a woman, is this type of training right for me?

Currently our gym is 2/3rds women. That means that there is two women for every one man, and some of our classes end up being all women! Don't be fooled by our 'hardcore' appearance, our members include plenty of pregnant women, new moms, working ladies, police/firewomen, and everything in-between! Our coaches specialize in being able to adapt the workouts to any fitness level so that the workouts will be challenging but doable.

How many times per week do I need to do CrossFit to get results?

We recommend that most of our members attend 3 classes per week to start. Results are highly individualized and depend on motivation, experience, current physical condition and many other factors. Some members get great results with just two times per week, others enjoy the classes so much they build up to coming 4 or even 5 times per week! (Generally, this is for 'advanced' athletes only).

I can get results on just three one our classes per week!? I'll have to do 'extra' work in addition to CrossFit right?

Absolutely NOT! CrossFit workouts are designed to be very intense workouts that can put a lot of stress on your body, burning much more fat than 'cardio' training. Adding additional workouts on top of CrossFit can actually make progress slow down or halt completely. If you are currently participating in a sport or an activity (running, cycling, etc) and you would like to use CrossFit to enhance your training, we have specialized coaches that can help you tailor your training accordingly.

Is the Elements Program mandatory?

Yes. All new members, regardless of fitness level or CrossFit experience are required to attend the Elements program.

How much does the Elements Program cost?

Our regular programs cost between $60 and $155/month depending upon how many times per week you plan on coming and if you sign up for auto-pay or not. There is no additional cost for the Elements program semi-private training sessions. At the completion of Elements, you automatically are enrolled in ongoing DCF unlimited program (with full use of the gym and access to any of the "Fundamentals" classes).

What does the Elements Program cover?

The elements program will introduce and the following CrossFit physical skills; Bodyweight exercises, Olympic lifting, Metabolic Conditioning (a.k.a. "MetCon"), rings and kettlebells. We also cover nutrition, CrossFit theory, and many other concepts.

I can't fit the Elements program into my schedule OR I prefer 1 on 1 training. Do you have private sessions?

Yes. If you prefer 1 on 1 personal training to get yourself introduced to CrossFit, you can sign up for our Newbie Quick Start program for $190, here.

Do you offer discounted membership to full-time students, active military, police officers, and firefighters?

Yes we do. All of the above folks are entitled to a 15% discount on everything at DCF. We also offer discounted packages for autopay, couples and annual memberships. Please note that if you are a firefighter, your wife is a student (or you are) and you want an annual contract, you do not get to add together all the discounts.

Do you offer nutritional counseling?

We feel that nutrition is a huge part of health and fitness, and nutrition plays a large roll in our program. We offer free nutrition/diet counseling and advice, as well as holding special classes on nutrition, cooking and shopping monthly.

What makes "Diablo CrossFit" different than the other CrossFit locations out there?

CrossFit is not a chain or franchise, each 'affiliate' (CrossFit gym) is individually owned and operated. That being said, there can be great differences in operating hours, coaching experience, class practices, equipment offerings, etc.

Diablo CrossFit is one of the oldest CrossFit locations, and the largest dedicated CrossFit facility in the East Bay. Many of our coaches have been fitness trainers for decades and have been doing CrossFit soon after the program went online. We are also one of the only 'full-time' locations on the west coast - we are open seven days per week and we have "Open Gym" hours (we are open all day so members can use the gym between class times).
