Article: "Let your kids try this at home"

"Play with a pocket knife. Break glass. Throw things from a moving car. Drive a nail. Find a beehive. Glue your fingers together with superglue.

Many parents would forbid their kids from doing these activities. They'd keep the superglue locked in a box where little fingers could never find it.

But Gever Tulley thinks these are exactly the sorts of things children should be doing . . ."

(This looks like a great book for overprotective parents. I almost feel like the same type of book needs to be written for all the overprotective friends and family members of CrossFitters around the world. The ones that tell you that CrossFit is 'dangerous', 'not good for you', or 'hard on your joints'. The ones that tell you that 'dietary fat is bad', 'high protein diets are not good for you', and that 'it's okay because the label says "diet"'. Especially the ones that are 30+ pounds overweight, have a bad back/knee/shoulder (because of lack of exercise), and have never even seen a CrossFit workout let alone actually attempted to do one. -jj)

WOD Love and hate it... someone really creative and smart figured up this one.
Report on Oly Clinic to come.
(and TJ is rad, by the way... way rad)

Oly clinic went great! Dan H., Greg P. and Terry O. all are now the proud owners of good front squats! We had lots of practice choking ourselves with the bar.
If you're wondering why your clean is sloppy or if you're having trouble jerking the big weight, the front squat is a great place to start.

This WOD is great for those of you who are hoping to create a soothing numbness in your forearms. I am surprised I made it to work after this.

Nice job everyone this morning! We barely had enough equipment, but nothing a little staggering couldn't solve. Cabby led the men with an Rx'ed time in the 17 minute range. Lauren went 30 lbs heavier than any of the other ladies and used 85lbs. She had the longest time (still less than 20 minutes), but she definitely had the most heart (and the fastest farmer carries).

And everyone considering coming in later. . . We can do all 100m of farmer carries inside. No need to go into the rain. . .

unless you want to that is.

Nice job Lauren...I'm a fan of going as heavy as you can even if it takes a little longer.

Fish Oil---again! After reading what Nick wrote it (based on Rob Wolf's recommendations) and talking to him about the amount of fish oil in the capsules I bought, it would seem to me that weighting in at just under 170lbs I would be taking 51 of the capsules a day. To me that seems CRAZY. Even if I half the amount to .5g/10lbs body weight/per day I would still have to take 25 capsules a day. Is there a better solution than the capsules that will give me more Omega 3's? Between myself and my husband we will be going through a bottle of 400 capsules every week. Any suggestions would be great!

I LOVE this article. I think it is imperative to foster independence and self reliance in your children. I fail at this more often than I care to admit but it is always on my mind and I strive to be the kind of mom who can stand by and watch my children fail....and then hopfully learn from it.

yay Tina! You made the pic and have your beautiful smile on your face!

For those of you who don't know, Tina and I worked at her Dad's restaurant for years together and it is one of the yummiest places to grab a homemade meal in Walnut Creek! Super whole-in-the-wall and right on North Main. Try it out sometime... it's called Cruchon's. I can't promise Paleo eating but they have the best fried zucchini, burgers, sandwhiches, soups and deserts! Everything they make is good. In fact, this has been my post delivery meal choice with each of our kids and I plan to eat it after having this baby too!

Wow Jasmin I didn't know you use to work at Cruchon's. I just discovered it last week and I loved it! The crab and alvacado salad was was terrific oh and the russian meat ball soup....yum!
