Dan Smith strikes a 'Captain Morgan' pose during some step ups.

Olympic weightlifting warm up: 5 hang muscle snatches, 5 hang power snatches, 5 hang squat snatches. Try not to put the bar down for all 15 reps. Complete 2 - 3 sets if possible. Keep the weights light to moderate.

Workout (originally from CF.com):

50 Burpees for time.

Jump one foot above reach each rep. Scale down to a lesser height if 12 inches is too high.

Record total time.

Article: Another nail in the coffin for static stretching before a workout/sporting event.

". . .In static stretching, "you're taking the muscle to the point where it naturally wants to go, and then you're taking it a little bit farther," said Meller. That produces microscopic tears of muscle fibers and does nothing to prevent injury, he said. It also may weaken the muscle slightly, increase the possibility of injury and inhibit performance, according to him and the CDC study. . ."

BEEF

I talked to the guy at Alhambra Valley Beef, and it looks like our order will be ready at the end of this week, probably Friday. If you were in on the order, contact me so we can arrange payment & pickup logistics. As soon as I know, I'll let you know the exact day and time I'll be able to bring the beef to the gym.

Checks should be made out to Holly Casaus. The total is $210 for 40 lbs, or $420 for 80 lbs. Thank you to everyone who joined in and made this order possible.

Ways to reach me:

Facebook (best way)
925-786-0541
mmmtain@gmail.com (I'm really bad about checking it)
Post a comment on the DCF website (ya know, here)

ps-- The Alhambra Valley Beef guy mentioned that his neighbor is looking to start selling free-range lamb in the near future. If anyone is interested, let me know, and I'll find out more about it.

Yeah Sugar Mama!

This is Kate and I "contacting you" to organize logistics for our 80# of BEEF!

Leave the BEEF in the freezer unguarded and we will slip the cash in an undisclosed location to only be revealed in the case of a clean pick-up. Or just give us an address and we'll send a check - whichever is easier :-)

Why am I awake. I have to get up at 5:30. Lame.

JJ,

BTW does not have today's WOD listed.

Could you please add it?

Posted by: BD at November 3, 2009 6:25 AM

Sarah, sorry about the quick escape last night - neck started to hurt and I really wanted to get some ice on it as quickly as possible. Not trying to be a deuche bag.

Mountain...
Will you be at the shed @ 7am on Wed doing your P.T.? If so I will bring a check for the beef

Posted by: 6am...Matt at November 3, 2009 7:39 AM

Reminder to everyone getting meat - there is no longer a freezer at the gym (it cost over $100 a month in electricity!), so leaving meat there for any period of time is not an option.

Dave - The workout is on BTWB, in fact, you posted a result!

Life isn't like a box of chocolates. It's more like a jar of jalapenos.

What you do today, might burn your butt tomorrow.

Posted by: Big Dave at November 3, 2009 7:58 AM

Mountain,
I will be at the Shed Friday at 2 pm, so if you have the beef by that time I can pick it up and give you a check. If you need a check before that let me know.
I would be interested in finding out about the lamb, cost, amt. etc.
Thanks again for putting this together for all of us.

BD, so glad to hear that others know about the jalapeno burn!!

Miles and everyone else, there are 4 ice packs in the freezer/frig on the gym floor for those of you that need to ice an area after your WOD. Just remember to wipe them off with a gym wipe and put them back.

Posted by: Craig at November 3, 2009 8:42 AM

Mountain, I'll have a check for you tomorrow. I can be available Friday afternoon for pickup if that works. If not I can coordinate another time with you. Thanks again for setting it up, MUCH appreciated.

Scott S.-- I'll leave your beef in an undisclosed location, right next to Dick Cheney. Seriously, though, what's your schedule like on Friday? The lack of freezer means we actually have to plan this out,

6AM Matt-- I'll see you at 7AM tomorrow. You can let me know then what your Fri schedule looks like.

Kathy-- I can pick up the check Fri @ 2pm. I don't think I'll have the beef by then, but I may be able to get it shortly thereafter. What's your schedule after class?

Mike P-- I can pick up the check tomorrow... 5 or 6 o'clock class? Late afternoon Fri should work fine for handing off the beef.

Marshall & Scott (not the Evan Almighty Scott)-- you guys are already paid, so just let me know when you're free to make the pickup.

Mountain,

If you give me your info, I can wire the money online now to your/holly's account (takes a day or so to process). (might want to email it though)

Kate can be @ DCF (or area) at 3pm or later Friday.

Posted by: Yvonne at November 3, 2009 1:10 PM

In DCFs defense, we did win one of the forfeited games (if it had been a real game).

Did yesterday's WOD this morning - 9:33. I missed my second to last muscle up 4 times - brutal. My kip needs work.

So, when I threw basketball out as an idea before, no takers... I'll try again! Anyone? DCF Basketball team?

I am not sure I like us doing too many of these extra curricular competitive sports. More people have been hurt from a few games of softball than the last year of training at Diablo.

A good sized group of people braved the morning cold to come in and get their butts kicked. We still missed some of the regulars (I haven't seen the newly weds since before the wedding, and where has Tyler and Maren been!?).

Then at 9am we had zero. Cherry picking maybe?

10am had a good group, with everyone going for the full Rx and many people finishing in under 5 minutes!

I got talked into doing yesterday's workout right after Darren came in and did it.

8:03. I was sucking wind by the second round, but I was able to grind through.

2pm class had 8 people (becoming a regular thing in the afternoons). Jeff G lead the pack with a 2:59! (beating out such wipper snappers as Moises and New-but-fast Matt Mora).

Nice work Jeff!

50 burpee's for time in a 2nd floor hotel room = rug burned knees & a visit from the hotel manager. Ooooops.

3:03. Rx.

Posted by: adamwells at November 3, 2009 5:32 PM

I bet that isn't the first time you've been visited by hotel management for doing something that gives you rug burnt knees. . .

I have actually had a very similar experience doing burpees in a hotel.

deuche is spelled douche. I was the 6th grade Cherokee County, Iowa spelling bee champ, you know.

I'll play basketball, Rob. It's looking like we will need to find a 2 on 2 team ;)

Meg R's butterfly pull-ups are amazing! I think I added at least 2 minutes to my time yesterday just standing there watching her.

"Katie, welcome to the final round. Please spell, 'douchebag'"

"Is it a noun?"

"Yes"

"Uhhm, can you use it in a sentence?"

"Yes. Miles is a 'douchebag' for leaving class early without saying goodbye to Sarah."

"Ok. Uhhhmm, douchebag, d-o-u-c-h-e-b-a-g"

"Correct. Congratulations, Ms. Irwin you are our new DCF spelling champion!"

Posted by: Craig at November 3, 2009 6:58 PM

Scott/Evan Almighty-- your technology may be too advanced for us to handle. Any chance you could write a check?

Deutsche is the German word for "German." Douche is the French word for "shower." Maybe Miles is a German shower.

Julie-- "Bacon tastes good. Pork chops taste good."

I'm interested in a basketball team. Let's only do one this time, so we have plenty of backups when people don't show up to the game. I understand JJ's injury concerns, but softball has a freakishly high injury rate & isn't very athletic. Except for the fact that it's really fun & goes well with BBQs and beer drinking, rec league softball isn't actually a good idea.

Posted by: Mountain at November 3, 2009 7:09 PM

Looks like I'm going to have to get used to a new format! Liking the new layout with all the pictures. I watched through all the different pictures to see who was in them! Very cool!

Softball is a great sport, but I think we should limit ourselves to one team per sport per season (on any sport)
