For no good reason, Jeremy and I did "Fran + 40" (full Fran, each while wearing 40 pound weight vests).
JJ: 7:31
Mark L.: 8:20

Both of us were bouncing off our ankles near the end of the thrusters. Excuse me while I go ice my 40 year old knees. Once Jeremy figures out the math for exercises with a weightvest, it will be on Whiteboard for all to enjoy!

JJ...I propose a 6am WOD instead of combat con tomorrow? This WOD looks amazing! Matt seconds the motion.

Nearly finished the entire video, "Sugar: The Bitter Truth." I feel fortunate enough to already have been on the anti-HFCS kick. After watching I am definitely going to make a better effort to reduce or eliminate all sugar (been cheating too much lately) and sadly must say that the alcohol needs to go too. Like he stated in the video, alcohol is exactly like sugar, in fact it is fermented from sugar.

On another note, I was never one who had high blood pressure but little by little it was moving up each year, getting near the prehypertension levels. The past couple of weeks I have been to the doctor and had readings of 110/70 and 110/60 with a 54 and 50 pulse. What has been different? Crossfit and Paleo(ish).

NOOOOOOO.... not the alcohol!!! You can have my chocolate and my cottage cheese, but please let me have my tequila! JK.... sorta.

I cracked myself pretty good on the neck again doing OHS last night, probably going to be out for a few until it feels better but I think I finally figured out why Stav and Mountain just drop the weight when they are done with their sets. I'm quick like that.

Jeff, I've been similarly convicted about the alcohol. I know we don't talk much about calories, but carbohydrates, like sugar, are only 4 kcals/g and alcohol is actually 7 kcals/g. A single jigger of 80 proof tequila is 97 calories, for example.
I'm not a heavy drinker, but I wonder what would change if I were to 100% stop consuming alcohol for a month. It doesn't seem like it would be a huge effect on any one thing, but I wouldn't have thought simply cutting out grains and refined sugar would be huge for body composition, and look at Travis and all the other people that went Paleo! Maybe alcohol use adds up over time (both ways)? Hmmm...
Maybe it's time for a 7-week alcohol free challenge? I'll let you know how it goes. =)

Alcohol - The cause and solution to all of life's problems.

Moderation, moderation!
Remember to live everyday to the fullest, for tomorrow is a gift, not a right!
Know your own body follow the best advice you can and you will live a happy healthy life. Eat foods that are as close to how they came from the ground or the animal and you will feel the difference.
Enjoy today and feel lucky that you are able to have all of these conversations!
Peace out!!

Miles. . . I did teach dropping the weight to the class, for the exact reason you stated! (Where were you?)

D-Roe skipped booze for a month. Ask him if he saw any (worthwhile) changes.

Jeremy, you definitely coached us up on that, I just went to back out of bad habit I think? Oh well, lesson learned.

Posted by: Miles at October 27, 2009 8:21 AM

I'm in for volleyball or soccer (although admit that I just learned how to play soccer thus may not be able to contribute much).

Posted by: jamie at October 27, 2009 8:50 AM

Miles....I learned how to not hurt my neck during the Bear complex...you gotta have soft knees when the weight comes down on your shoulders then the weight won't bang into you.

I gave up booze completely for a month for Lent and saw great results! Had more energy and saw results that I was not able to achieve prior! Sadly, I have not done it since:)

I'll play soccer. I'll play anything, really.
Who else for VOLLEYBALL? =)

I witnessed the Miles-barbel- neck-piledriver, it sounded/looked harsh. Heal up buddy!

Did the OHS last night at 6pm with Neck-boy, Bill, Mountain, and Adam Wells. It's always surprising how 95lbs. feels so heavy at first! Bill is STRONG!! Adam has a big OHS as well. I felt great at 155 x 5, then made too big of a jump to 185. I got 2 reps but depth was not adequate. Next time I'll go with a smaller jump from 155. Overall, everyone looked great on the OHS.

Did todays WOD at work. No rope to climb here, so I subbed 10 towel pull-ups. It's a give and take with this sub, because there is more rest than a rope climb, but no legs used. The thrusters felt VERY tough.

5 RD's + 11 Thrusters

Stav, nice sub on the "towel pull-ups". Was it a wet or a dry towel?

Posted by: Mark L. at October 27, 2009 11:07 AM

AAHH...Rope climb, my arch enemy...Katie will you spot me?! hahaha

Posted by: smurphy at October 27, 2009 11:42 AM

Miles, the key is to not drop the bar on the neck.

(sorry, couldn't resist)

First little wod for me this morning in 3 weeks. Back still tender, but heat/ice treatments seem to be working.

By the way, this is a cool little warm-up wod (Cindy with abs):

5 Rounds-
3 Knees to Elbows
5 Dead Hang Pull Ups
10 Push-Ups
15 Squats

No matter the size of the can Coke is still S**t in my book.

I finally got over my mental block of the rope climb tonight...no longer my arch enemy....4 rounds +1 rope climb and 3 thrusters....RX!! :)
